I recently had the honor to record a guitar duet at New England Conservatory’s recording studio with my friend and colleague Carl Straussner. We were commissioned to co-arrange a guitar duet for a tango song called called Los Ninos Perdidos by William Thorpe. It was really fun to help a fellow modern composer re-imagine one of his previous works with the romantic charm of a guitar duet. The great Frederic Chopin once said, “nothing is more beautiful than a guitar, save perhaps two.” Which is suiting considering Bill initially wanted to re-arrange the work for one guitar until he heard a live guitar duo performance.
This project was successful and we had a lot of fun in the process! This may also lead to a composition commission from a local church in Boston that Bill sings at. If so, I will compose a new chorale work accompanied by two guitars and then we’ll record and premiere the work with a professional choir! I’m very excited and look forward to many hours of composing and rehearsing over the next few months. Ciao for now!
